Overnight Camp

4-H camp provides a positive experience for campers. The yearly 3-day overnight camp program is designed to help develop self-esteem and responsibility and provide positive role models for the campers. The campers will make friends from across Adams and Franklin Counties, learn new skills, and have fun experience! Campers ages 8 to 13 from Adams and Franklin County participate in the overnight camp. While at camp, 4-H campers will enjoy staying in four-person covered wagons, swimming, campfires, and other special activities. 4-H Camp is conducted by Adams - Franklin County Extension Staff and volunteer 4-H leaders. 4-H teens serve as group counselors and workshop counselors. Early teens can develop leadership skills through the Counselor-In-Training Program, which prepares them to be counselors as older teens.

This event is a huge success with 60 to 80 campers a year from Adams County alone. Every year a different theme is developed. Past themes have been the Olympics, Wildlife, the 50's through the 70's, jungle themes, and country themes with linedancing.

Each day will be designed to focus on a different part of that year's theme. The workshops, activities and evening programs will follow the theme as well. The campers will learn and experience specific activities in wildlife/forestry; first aid; canoeing/recreation; and basket making.

A new addition is FAMILY DAY. The entire family is invited to participate in activities that will continue through to an evening campfire. Young and old alike will have the change to build family relationships through games, construct a family tree, make a family shield, and take an active part in the campfire program.

Overnight Camp is only open to Adams, Franklin, and Cumberland Counties 4-H members, ages 8-12. Any questions, contact Darlene Resh, at (717) 334-6271
